The Lagos State Government is intensifying efforts to improve community safety and bolster the capabilities of its emergency response agencies. During a recent visit to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, pledged continued support for the agency and expressed concerns about rising issues such as drug abuse, vandalism, and other criminal activities affecting the state.
“Effective emergency response requires collective action and expertise. We must work together to promote preventive measures and reduce crime and insecurity in our communities,” Oyerinde stated, emphasizing the need for collaboration and a proactive approach to address these challenges. He highlighted that protecting Lagosians requires not only rapid response but also preventive strategies to keep communities safe.
Responding to the Commissioner’s address, Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, General Manager of LNSA, outlined the agency’s mandate and its strategic role in ensuring peace and security. “Our Corps officers are dedicated to safeguarding Lagosians, protecting them from threats posed by criminals, thugs, and hoodlums,” Oyekan explained. “Even in dangerous situations, these officers are committed to upholding safety and order.”
Dr. Oyekan also underscored the agency’s adoption of a community policing approach, in line with international best practices, as part of Lagos State’s broader efforts to reinforce emergency response systems. “The LNSA is focused on strategic community engagement to effectively address security challenges and build disaster resilience across the state,” he added.
The General Manager expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing support of LNSA and other emergency response initiatives in Lagos. Additionally, he acknowledged Mr. Oyerinde’s commitment to reviewing staff welfare, an initiative he believes will “boost morale and productivity among our officers.”
