Nigeria’s Armed Forces said on Monday that investigations into allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations involving sixteen officers have been concluded, with some of the personnel set to face formal military trial.
In a statement issued by Defence Headquarters, and signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, the military said the probe followed the arrest of the officers in October 2025 and was conducted in line with established military procedures.
“The comprehensive investigation process… has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel,” the statement said.
According to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), findings from the investigation identified a number of the officers as facing allegations linked to plotting to overthrow the government, actions the military described as incompatible with its ethics, values and professional standards.
The report of the investigation has now been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with existing regulations, the military said.
Those found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before the relevant military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations.
Defence Headquarters said the process was intended to ensure accountability while upholding fairness and due process.
“The measures being taken are purely disciplinary and form part of ongoing institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks,” the statement added.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, loyalty and respect for Nigeria’s constitutional authority.
