In a decisive operation to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and violent crimes in Imo State, operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers during a raid on a forest in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the arrested suspects include Suleiman Ahmed (26), Mohammed Salisu (31), and Gambo Jefta (26), all from Jigawa State, as well as Gabriel Ogbuzuru from Ebonyi State.
During the operation, police recovered three locally fabricated short guns, six rounds of live cartridges, and three machetes from the suspects’ hideout.
The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has reinforced security measures, including confidence-building patrols and collaboration with local vigilantes, to enhance safety in the state. He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and urged the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding.
The suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
