Super Eagles Soar in Latest FIFA Rankings

1 Mins read

Nigeria’s Super Eagles soared 14 places in the latest FIFA rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

The West Africans were placed 42nd heading into the AFCON but are now ranked 28th in the world.

The remarkable rise was as a result of the team’s impressive performance at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where Nigeria made it to the final without recording a loss, but suffered a surprise defeat to host nation Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the final to finish second best in Africa.

Quarterfinalists Angola rose the highest as they climbed 24 places to occupy the 93rd spot on the ranking and sit 20th in Africa.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco are the highest ranked team in Africa, while the Teranga Lions of Senegal occupy second spot.

Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire complete the top five teams on the continent.

The next edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be published on 4th of April 2024.
