In a heartfelt dialogue with Christian leaders at St. David’s Anglican Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, on Monday, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to service and spiritual accountability. Emphasizing his commitment to the Christian faith, Governor Aiyedatiwa declared that his government is “grounded in the body of Christ” and vowed to lead with integrity.

“I am one of you, a born-again Christian, and I understand the spiritual responsibilities that come with leadership,” the governor said. “The Ondo State government is anchored on the body of Christ, and as such, we cannot afford to fail. I earnestly ask that you continue to pray for us, for wisdom in governance and for the upcoming elections to be peaceful and just.”

The gathering, which saw the presence of several Christian leaders across Ondo State, provided an opportunity for dialogue and spiritual support. The governor also urged the Christian community to pray fervently as the state approaches a critical electoral period. “As we approach the crucial electoral period, I implore you to intercede for our state, for harmony, and for a smooth process that reflects the will of the people,” he said. “We cannot underestimate the power of prayers.”

In response, Reverend Anselm Ologunwa, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State chapter, commended the governor’s attentiveness to matters affecting the Christian community. “We appreciate your dedication to our concerns and your promptness in addressing matters that affect the body of Christ. Your leadership is indeed commendable,” he said.

Reverend Ologunwa underscored CAN’s non-partisan mission, expressing the association’s commitment to fostering Christian values and supporting leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people. “The body of Christ is non-partisan; our duty is to promote the teachings of Jesus Christ, regardless of political affiliations,” he stated. “We need a government that actively advocates for peace and harmony. Economic development and job opportunities must remain a top priority.”

Ologunwa announced that the Christian community would embark on a three-day prayer initiative starting November 10 to seek divine guidance and peace for Ondo State during the electoral process. “The Christian community has set aside three days of intensive prayer for the state and the election. We trust that God will intervene,” he affirmed.

As the interface concluded, prayers were offered for Governor Aiyedatiwa, the state, and the upcoming November 16 gubernatorial election. In a final plea, Reverend Ologunwa requested the return of Christian-founded schools to their original owners, stressing the importance of maintaining institutions built on moral and academic foundations.

The session concluded with a shared sense of hope and unity among the state’s Christian leaders, who pledged their continued prayers and support for peaceful, just governance in Ondo State.
