Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda received a boost this week as telecommunications giant Globacom sealed a partnership with the Ondo State government to roll out a range of smart solutions designed to improve governance, enhance public service delivery, and support socio-economic growth.

At a strategic meeting in Akure, Globacom’s Group Lead for Enterprise Business, Mr. Adeniyi Odejobi, unveiled the company’s package of digital tools to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and other senior state officials. The solutions, according to Odejobi, are tailored to help the state harness technology for efficiency, security, and improved citizen engagement.

Among the offerings is a Learning Management System (LMS) for students in secondary and tertiary institutions. Through Glo Share, students will enjoy zero-rated access to the LMS, ensuring they can learn online without spending on data. The company is also extending sponsored data services to the state’s digital payment platform, enabling residents to pay taxes and other fees at no cost to their data bundles.

On the governance side, Globacom is deploying a facial biometrics surveillance system, a traffic management solution to curb crime, and a vehicle tracking service to monitor government fleets, preventing misuse and theft. Public servants across ministries, departments, and agencies will also benefit from free closed-user group lines to improve inter-agency communication.

Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely for a state that is keen to modernize its processes.

“Our administration is eager to embrace these solutions to improve governance,” Aiyedatiwa said. “By adopting Globacom’s technologies, we will reduce bureaucracy, increase efficiency, and minimize human interference in government processes.”

He added that the collaboration aligns with his broader vision of digitizing Ondo State’s economy.

“Globacom has consistently championed innovation in this country, making mobile telephony accessible to millions. This partnership will no doubt advance digital innovation and strengthen socio-economic development in Ondo State,” he noted.

Industry watchers say the partnership underscores how Nigerian telcos are moving beyond connectivity into providing enterprise and public-sector digital solutions. With states like Ondo embracing smart governance tools, analysts argue that a blueprint is emerging for how technology can improve transparency, service delivery, and citizen participation across Nigeria.
