The U.S. Department of State and Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will convene around 300 stakeholders in Lagos from September 10 to 11 for the “Global Inclusivity and Artificial Intelligence: Africa” conference.
The event will bring together tech policy leaders, private sector executives, civil society members, and academics to discuss the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI) across the continent.
The conference is a vital step in promoting responsible AI adoption and ensuring that its benefits are accessible to all. Attendees will engage in discussions through plenary and break-out sessions, site visits, and panel discussions designed to harmonize strategies that address both the opportunities and challenges of AI.
This conference is part of a broader effort to strengthen U.S.-Nigeria relations, building on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Nigeria in January and the U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission meetings held in Abuja in April. “This event will advance our shared goal of inclusive technological growth in Africa,” Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications remarked.
Participants will also explore the need for AI governance frameworks that protect the public from potential harm while promoting innovation.
